March 8th is designated as International Women’s Day (#IWD2019), and this year’s campaign theme is #BalanceforBetter for women across the globe.
It is also a time to celebrate women’s achievements, whilst challenging unfair bias and encouraging a movement towards equality in all areas of their lives.
Employers can help achieve a #BalanceforBetter in our workplaces by considering and accommodating women’s different needs in terms of health, flexible working, and caring responsibilities, and some simple changes could have a positive impact on improving the wellbeing of women in all places of work.
Ann from @worksafeandwell was invited to contribute to a blog by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents on this subject-here is the link – https://www.rospa.com/lets-talk-about/2019/march-2019/women-leading-the-way-for-health-and-safety/
To support the #IWD2019 campaign, try looking at the host of events listed here or try reflecting on your own workplace and see what you can do to achieve a better balance there. Here are a few tips to get you started:
- Take a look at your recruitment policies and current gender balance.
- Are your working arrangements flexible enough to accommodate caring and family responsibilities?
- Do you have fair and equal pay across all job types?
As always here at #worksafeandwell, we would love to hear your good news stories of how you are helping to achieve a #BalanceforBetter.
Please Get in touch and we will share your successes!
