In this week’s post I wanted to share how to succeed and burn brighter together, by lifting each other to grow your community, as helping each other grow is better than trying to go it alone.

There is a quote attributed to the Buddha that says:

Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle. Happiness never decreases by being shared’

Recently I have had several wonderful conversations with women in my industry who have demonstrated that in abundance.

A conversation for a forthcoming International Women’s day magazine article on ‘Women in Safety’ brought up the subject of barriers to women in professional roles.It was noted that the gender-based challenges women faced were more likely to be removed if they lifted each other together instead of competing with each other. We also agreed that in the best organisational cultures colleagues are judged on their work performance rather than gender, and Louise Hosking shared details of opportunities for  RoSPA  and L’Oréal  funded places for women entrepreneurs across the world on the latest  “Leading Safely” course to embed these leadership values. The partnership will provide six funded places on the IOSH Leading Safely course, delivered by RoSPA, in collaboration with Louise Hosking as trainer on February 25, 2021.

A few days after this interview, I had the ‘pleasure’ of being briefly grilled by Dr Romie Mushtaq on a group coaching call. It was way out of my comfort zone, but I learned so much from this brilliant and inspirational woman who generously shared tips on becoming a better professional public speaker. 

Inspired by this I looked up her ‘Wellness Evolved’ podcast, and heard her speak the message I have been trying to communicate for many years, but haven’t yet managed to put it as eloquently as she did!  She speaks with such passion about her role as a Chief Wellness officer, and her mission to promote a #wholepersonwholelife approach to mental health and workplace wellbeing culture.

As the theme of this year’s International Women’s day is #ChooseToChallenge , I urge every business leader to check this out, and see why you need to think about how you manage your own mindset, and look after that of your employees. After listening you will hopefully realise why a ‘Chief Wellness Officer’ is a must-have for any organization serious about resilience, sustainability and growth.
